Be Jealous; It's MY Paper!
We have all been there. You know, when someone receives a better grade on their paper then you did. The problem here is not that your selfish; it is just that you thought you wrote better then what your grade turned out to be. Let us say you were able to choose your own topic for your writing assignment. That other someone chose a topic that really interests them while you choose a topic that you were not really fond of. See, that is the problem. It is the lack of motivation, not your writing skills. I am here to give you some tips on how to make your next paper scream AMAZING! Then, you will be the one everyone will be jealous of!
1. Pick a topic that interests you
Most teachers allow you to choose your own topic for an assignment (if not, you may skip this step and move on to one of the others). The key to writing a paper is to have that motivation to write. If you choose to write about the first thing that comes to mind, you will probably end up writing a dull paper. You have to rack your brain for ideas first before you decide on your topic. Then, choose a topic that you would enjoy writing about. This, in turn, will make your paper easier to write. Maybe even fun?
2. Put yourself into the writing
Let us say you were given a topic that you would never choose to write about if your life depended on it. Make the best of it! You have to work with what your given. For example, if you are given the assignment write about a person who inspires you, instead of choosing someone predictable such as Condoleezza Rice, you could choose your favorite singer. Unless you are a major history buff, I am assuming you don not know much about Condoleezza Rice. You would then have to research information about her which most of us would not enjoy doing. If you choose to use your favorite singer as your inspirational figure, chances are you know the songs they sing and their background information. This will then make your paper easier to write. Your voice and personality will also shine through the paper!
3. Turn it around
What if you have to write a paper on the history of the Berlin Wall? Most of us would consider this snooze central right? It does not have to be! Start by researching the Berlin Wall. Do not just look for the history; look for interesting facts. As you may know, you can find basically anything you would ever want on the internet. While researching the Berlin Wall, you will most likely find interesting stories, families around that time period, or events that occurred while the Berlin Wall was in place. If you find a particular family from this era, you could turn your paper around by not just adding the history, but the family's story as well. This will keep you as well as your readers interested.
There are many things you can do to create an amazing paper. Choose a topic your interested in. Turn your paper around by adding interesting facts or stories. Explore the internet for clues. Do anything you can to make your topic more interesting. Once again, you have to work with you have. Just as this popular saying states: "when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade." Try these tips or create your own. Now, get to it; write that paper that will be hung on the fridge just as soon as it is returned to you with a big fat 'A' written on it!
