The Making of Sweet Insomnia
Before Sweet Insomnia, I started designing graphics on a neopets petpage during 2007-2008. I would make all sorts of different layouts for userlookups. Then, I added some small things such as icons and animations. Then, I decided to change the name from Majleo's Graphics to Brilliance. Later on in the year of 2008, I switched to freewebs. Soon after I switched to freewebs, I thought that changing the name would be appropriate, so Brilliance became Insomnia. I purchased my own domain, www.insomnnia.net, in May 2009.Problems with www.insomnnia.net arose during September through early October of 2009. There were times when I couldn't even access the site. I decided to purchase another domain from Innocent Sky which ended up being www.sweetinsomnia.net. I decided to change the name once again because I no longer wanted people to get confused about my site's name.
I use celebrities in my graphics and layouts. My layouts feature an artist whose music is coming out soon. As you may know, music is a big part of my life, so I always try to find little ways to fit music into my site.
Past Layouts
Version 10: Make Me Want To Die
Used: February 2010-March 2010
Information:
This layout is definitely one of my favorites. I decided to use Taylor Momsen in this layout because of her photoshoot with Seventeen magazine in the February issue as well as the the song "Make Me Want To Die" which I discovered from the magazine. The colors used in this layout were meant to give a softer feel. I feel as though everything came together with this layout; I love when layouts come together just as this one did.
Version 9: Today Was A Fairytale
Used: December 2009-early February 2010
Information:
I was actually surprised that I never used Taylor Swift in one of my layouts before, so that was part of the reason why I decided to feature her in this particular layout. Taylor Swift also released new music during these months including "Today Was A Fairytale" hence the name of this layout. I played around with the colors a bit, not having a specific color set in mind. Just with many of my layouts, I mess around with the material, and I usually end up with a layout. And this was one of those cases.
Version 8: Live Like We're Dying
Used: November 2009
Information:
This layout featured Kris Allen because his album, titled "Kris Allen," came out in November of 2009! This layout was a spur-of-the-moment type deal. I took some inspiration for this layout from one of my affiliates, Kristun. Even though this layout didn't turn out the way I expected, I still think it came out pretty well.
Version 7: Zero Gravity
Used: October 2009
Information:
This layout featured David Archuleta. His Christmas album titled "Christmas From The Heart" came out on October 13th which is why I wanted to feature him in my October layout. Not that there has to be a reason to put David Archuleta in a layout because to me, he could be in every one of my layouts, but this seemed like the perfect time to feature him. I used the color blue in my layout because of the pictures I used. I don't use the color blue in layouts very often, so this was a bit of a change. To be honest, this layout felt "rushed". I needed to create a new layout for my new domain, so I tried to hurry and make one. This isn't one of my best layouts, but I sure do like it!
Version 6: Falling Down
Used: early August 2009-late September 2009
Information:
I made this layout because Selena Gomez's single "Falling Down" came out, and I fell in love with that song, so I wanted to make a layout featuring her. I loved this photoshoot of her as well. I found all these images on seventeen.com since this particular photoshoot was for Seventeen. This is one of my favorite layouts that I have created. I love the fact that this layout came out of nowhere. I just sat down at the computer, and it just came to me!
Version 5: Here We Go Again
Used: late July 2009-early August 2009
Information:
I made this layout to celebrate Demi Lovato's new album "Here We Go Again." Artists always have a photoshoot for their cd covers, and these pictures are from her cover photoshoot. Demi used disco balls in this shoot which I though was very clever. I also wanted to use Demi in this layout because I was going to see David Archuleta and Demi Lovato in concert on July 31st!
Version 4: Vintage Memories
Used: mid July 2009-late July 2009
Information:
I saw that Emma Watson did a cover photoshoot for Teen Vogue, so I decided to use those pictures in my layout. Emma looks great in these pictures and what better way to show off the vintage feel then to put the actual pictures inside of a old-fashioned frame? I wanted to make it so it was like a scrapbook entry where pictures are taped to the page. I think I pulled off that idea very well if I do say so myself.
Version 3: Tell Me Something I Don't Know
Used: early July 2009-mid July 2009
Information:
I did this layout sort of quick because I had the Version 2: How Do You Love Someone layout up for a long time. I loved this photoshoot of Selena, so I wanted to either make some graphics from it or a layout. The layout won. I used some new flower brushes and a frame from deviant art to get a "vintage" look.
Version 2: How Do You Love Someone
Used: mid June 2009-early July 2009
Information:
I loved this photoshoot of Ashley Tisdale, so I wanted to make a layout from her album photoshoot. In June, Ashley's new album leaked, so the title of this layout came from one of the songs off her album. Its actually one of my favorite songs.
Version 1: First Bad Habit
Used: May 2009-mid June 2009
Information:
This was the first layout at the domain that featured Vanessa Hudgens. I got inspired to make this layout from one of my fellow affiliates. I loved the fact that this person had information about the site on the layout. It was one of the first things I noticed when I visited the website.
